AMC Search is the Training and Consultancy arm of the Australian Maritime College. Based in Launceston Tasmania, AMC Search serves the Australian and international maritime and defence industries. Utilising the Australian Maritime College's suite of maritime research, training and project resources, AMC Search can provide access to the largest range of facilities available in the southern hemisphere. These are supported by the personnel resources of Australia's national maritime training, education and research institute.
AMC Search conducts AMSA approved courses to the Standards of Training and Certification for Watchkeepers (STCW), and bespoke training to meet client driven requirements, including the Australian Defence Force. Training is both face to face and online, with a growing library of AMSA approved online STCW and professional development courses being available for mariners worldwide. Training can be conducted either at our facilities in Tasmania, or at the client's workplace.
Job Description
AMC Search is seeking a dedicated and experienced Maritime Instructor to join our team at AMCS Newnham within the Maritime Training department. This is a permanent, full-time position. As a Maritime Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering training sessions to individuals pursuing careers in the maritime and defence industries. Your main tasks will include:
Planning and preparing instructional materials and lesson plans.
Delivering theoretical and practical training.
Assessing student progress using differing evaluation methods
Providing constructive feedback and support as needed.
Working with other instructors improve course content and delivery methods.
Ensuring that training content remains current and relevant.
Contributing to the development of new training programmes and courses

Desired Skills and Experience
Proven experience as a maritime instructor or in a similar role
Demonstrated knowledge of maritime regulations, safety procedures, and best practices
Proficiency in delivering effective training sessions to diverse groups of learners
Strong understanding of navigation, ship handling, and seamanship principles
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Aptitude for developing course materials, lesson plans, and assessments for maritime training programmes
Certification or qualifications relevant to maritime education and training (e.g. STCW certification)
Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and levels of experience
Commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism, ethics, and industry best practice
Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel as required for training activities
Maritime Qualification
Civilian Maritime bridge/deck qualifications are required. Appropriate, equivalent Australian Defence Force qualifications and experience would be looked upon favourably, with a view to using these to gain civilian qualifications.
Training Qualification
An in-date Certificate IV TAE40122 (Cert IV Training and Assessment) is a minimum qualification for conducting vocational adult training. A preferred candidate could be supported to achieve this as part of the Company's professional development program.
